That has a waterfall effect on the investigation because those emails that we\u2019re searching for might not come through to the team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wolf\u00a0\u201creached\u00a0out\u00a0to Hunter Biden\u2019s defense counsel\u00a0and\u00a0told them\u201d about investigators\u2019 plans to search a northern Virginia\u00a0storage\u00a0unit that contained business records, Ziegler said in\u00a0prior congressional\u00a0testimony \u2014\u00a0\u00a0\u201conce again circumventing our chance\u00a0to\u00a0get to evidence from\u00a0potentially being destroyed, manipulated or concealed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shapley, who supervised the Hunter Biden criminal investigation for three years, testified investigators were barred from searching a guest house at Joe Biden\u2019s Wilmington, Del., home where Hunter often stayed to find supporting evidence.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) said the prosecutor had \u201cfirst-hand knowledge\u201d of the first son\u2019s case, having attended \u201ca substantial majority, if not all\u201d of the meetings held in Weiss\u2019 office for the case. <span class=\"credit\">Rod Lamkey \u2013 CNP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Shapley said that on Sept. 3, 2020,\u00a0\u201cWolf told us there was more than enough probable cause for the physical search warrant there, but the question was whether the juice was worth the squeeze.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wolf also allegedly objected during a meeting on Dec. 3, 2020, to questioning a key\u00a0Biden family associate, Rob Walker, about the president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWolf interjected and said she did not want to ask about the big guy and stated she did not want to ask questions about \u2018dad\u2019\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen multiple people in the room spoke up and objected that we had to ask, she responded, there\u2019s no specific criminality to that line of questioning. This upset the FBI too,\u201d Shapley testified.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>Weiss\u2019 office reportedly considered letting Hunter Biden off the hook for $2 million in tax evasion without charges.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The whistleblowers also accused\u00a0Weiss\u2019 office of giving\u00a0Hunter\u00a0Biden\u2019s legal team advance knowledge of a planned interview attempt in late 2020, scuttling a planned approach, and said that prosecutors didn\u2019t inform them about a paid FBI informant\u2019s\u00a0tip that Joe and Hunter Biden received\u00a0$10 million in bribes from Burisma, which paid Hunter up to $1 million to serve on its board beginning in 2014 when his vice-president dad led US policy toward the country.<\/p>\n<p>Shapley and Ziegler also said they were not allowed to get cellphone geolocation data that could have proved Joe Biden was with his son in July 2017 when Hunter sent a\u00a0threatening text message\u00a0to a Chinese government-linked businessman saying, \u201cI am sitting here with my father,\u201d and warning of retribution.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Within 10 days of that message, $5.1 million flowed to accounts linked to Hunter and first James Biden from CEFC China Energy \u2014 after a tranche of $1 million earlier that year,\u00a0less than two months after Biden left office as vice president. A May 2017 email penciled in Joe Biden, referred to as the \u201cbig guy,\u201d for a 10% cut.<\/p>\n<p>Wolf departed US Attorney David Weiss\u2019 office in recent weeks \u2014 months after he was made a special counsel in the Hunter Biden case \u2014 though it\u2019s unclear precisely when and on what terms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A source confirmed her departure to The Post after it was first reported by Fox News on Thursday morning.<\/p>\n<p>Reps for Weiss\u2019 office did not immediately respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Wolf \u201cdeviated from standard investigative procedures\u201d in the criminal investigation, according to House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).<\/p>\n<p>Jordan last month\u00a0issued a subpoena to summon Wolf\u00a0for a transcribed interview after the Justice Department evaded requests that she give voluntary testimony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen you get into Burisma, you get to the White House,\u201d Jordan said Thursday on Fox News.<\/p>\n<p>Other officials who have dodged requests for interviews include DOJ Tax Division officials Jack Morgan and Mark Daly, whose team pushed back on charging Hunter Biden during a June 2022 meeting, according to IRS tax investigators.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><figcaption>Wolf discouraged questions \u201cabout the big guy\u201d or \u201cdad,\u201d referring to Joe Biden, according to IRS whistleblowers. <span class=\"credit\">AP<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cGiven your critical role you played in the investigation of Hunter Biden, you are uniquely situated to shed light on whether President Biden played any role in the Department\u2019s investigation and whether he attempted, in any way, to directly or indirectly obstruct either that investigation or our investigation,\u201d Jordan wrote in a Nov. 21 letter to Wolf.<\/p>\n<p>The Judiciary chairman said the prosecutor had \u201cfirst-hand knowledge\u201d of the first son\u2019s case, having attended \u201ca substantial majority, if not all\u201d of the meetings held in Weiss\u2019 office over the course of the probe.<\/p>\n<p>One of those meetings Wolf \u201cobstructed,\u201d Jordan said, which involved a briefing that former Pittsburgh US Attorney Scott Brady eventually gave Weiss\u2019 office about an FBI informant file that alleged Hunter and Joe Biden\u00a0took a $10 million bribe\u00a0from the owner of Burisma Holdings.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"nyp-slideshow-modal-image wp-block-image aligncenter size-large\"><figcaption>IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley disclosed to GOP lawmakers that Wolf also tipped off Hunter Biden\u2019s defense team about a planned search of the first son\u2019s storage facility. <span class=\"credit\">Bonnie Cash\/UPI\/Shutterstock<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Other IRS documents show Wolf requested that references to Biden, who was then a Democratic presidential candidate, be removed since he was outside the \u201cscope\u201d of their probe,\u00a0the whistleblowers recounted.<\/p>\n<p>In a Jan. 12, 2022, meeting, Shapley took notes that he later\u00a0disclosed to GOP lawmakers\u00a0revealing Wolf had discouraged digging into allegations that Hunter\u2019s \u201csugar brother,\u201d the Hollywood lawyer Kevin Morris, who paid off the first son\u2019s $2 million tax liabilities, had committed \u201ccampaign finance criminal violations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Weiss\u2019 office reportedly considered letting Hunter Biden off the hook for $2 million in tax evasion without charges, before announcing a probation-only plea deal on tax and gun charges in June after the IRS whistleblowers alleged a coverup.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter Biden walked away from the plea deal in July over courtroom demands for assurances that he would not later face other charges, such as for alleged violations of the Foreign Agents Registration Act, which would implicate his father.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The first son, who theatrically refused to comply with a subpoena for his own testimony Wednesday, has been re-charged with tax and gun charges in Los Angeles and Delaware, but critics note the continued lack of FARA
